Safeguarding in Early Years Settings

Ann Marie managed a child protection team specialising in children aged 0-5 for three years. She was employed by children social care and early years and based in a children’s centre and participated in activities such as parenting sessions and complex child protection meetings.

In 1993, she worked in a nursery while studying social work, gaining hands-on experience with early years frameworks, activities, and supporting babies and toddlers

Since 2010, she has worked independently, supporting childminders and early years settings. Her experience includes conducting audits, post-LADO investigations, and court and suspension reviews. She delivers accredited safeguarding training, specialising in Designated Safeguarding Lead, whole staff training, and safer recruitment. She is an accredited trainer with the Safer Recruitment Consortium.

Ann Marie is recognised in the industry and has served on panels at Childcare Expo and Nursery World Exchange.

She has delivered workshops at the Nursery World Show, The Big Day Out, CPOMS, and Child Care Expo, as well as webinars for CPOMS, Famly, Kinderly, Tapestry, TTS, and others.

She writes regular articles for various journals and opinion pieces on high profile cases.
